Outliner.md allows you to embed only a part of another note, and then edit it directly. If you want to link to it rather than embed it, please check Copy Link to Text Fragment

Step-by-step guide

  • Select text from the editor (supports both Obsidian editor and Outliner.md editor).
  • Right-click on the selection to access the editor menu or use Ctrl+P to open the command palette.
    • Editor Menu: Choose Copy link to embed text fragment from the context menu.
    • Command Palette: Enter Copy link to embed text fragment and then select the command provided by Outliner.md.
  • After copying successfully, an text fragment ID will be generated around the selection, typically formatted as %%o-{here is a 4-char random string}%%.
    • For example: Here is %%o-happ%% the string I wanted to reference %%o-happ%% from the whole sentence.
  • Then paste the copied link into a note, and you will get something like:
    • I embedded part: the string I wanted to reference, and it is editable.

Notice

Outliner.md uses %%o-{here is a over 4-char random string}%% to track embeds.

Bonus

Outliner.md supports embedding multiple lines from a note. Just enjoy it.
